East Kilbride

Lisa holds regular home visits for constituents with mobility issues alongside her regular surgeries taking place across East Kilbride, Strathaven & Lesmahagow

In 2019, Lisa supported the Body Shop campaign from the East Kilbride Town Centre Bodyshop Store to the United Nations in New York where she helped deliver a petition of millions of signatures with Cruelty Free International Against Cosmetic Animal Testing and made a speech at the UN. 

Lisa supports East Kilbride Community Councils prioritising development work across the town, the EK Litter Pickers group and has been assisting East Kilbride foodbank’s Share Alike and Loaves and Fishes. 

With the devastating impact of Covid19 upon the town centre in East Kilbride, Lisa continues to prioritise town centre regeneration during this term in parliament and has requested a meeting with South Lanarkshire Council with a view to sponsoring a Levelling Up funding bid to UK Government.

Lisa was a steadfast campaigner for the Stay In East Kilbride Campaign against Closure of HMRC which saved thousands of local jobs.

Avondale

Lisa regularly engages with local community groups in Strathaven and across Avondale including the Strathaven Balloon Festival Committee, Creative Strathaven, Friends of Strathaven Park, Strathaven & Glassford Community Council and the organisers of the Strathaven Raft Race, taking part in local festivities. 

Lisa has opened the first MPs office in Strathaven so that constituents have a truly local service and representation.

Lisa liaised with the Japanese Embassy who provided 40 Cherry Blossom Trees for Strathaven Park and aims to further create a Japanese Garden to foster important cultural and tourist ties between the constituency and Japan. The Cherry Blossom project was officially opened by the Japanese Consular General in 2022.

Stonehouse

Lisa’s constituency covers part of Stonehouse and she continues to liaise with local organisations including the excellent Trust Jack Foundation who support young people’s mental health. 

Lisa campaigned against the Viridor incinerator plans successfully in conjunction with local organisations and the Stonehouse Community. 

In addition to her regular surgeries in Avondale, Lisa offers home visits to those who are unable to attend due to disability issues.  

Lisa keeps in regular touch with local groups in Stonehouse and the Community Council and attends the Memorial Service in Stonehouse every Armistice.

Lesmahagow/Blackwood/Kirkmuirhill

Lisa’s constituency covers Lesmahagow alongside Blackwood and Kirkmuirhill although boundary review means that this may alter in 2024.  Lisa has continued to support local work including attending the Blackwood Horticultural Show, Lesmahagow Highland Games, local church groups and the Lesmahagow Colours Festival.

Work with Local Businesses

Lisa has prioritised working with local charities, organisations and businesses, linking them to local Government grants to support economic sustainability across the constituency throughout and after Covid 19.  She made contact with over 500 local businesses and organisations to provide support.  

Lisa recently won a Lifetime Achievement Award for her work Supporting Disabled Entrepreneurs in Parliament encouraging employment and apprenticeships.

Lisa also supports not for profit and charitable organisations across the constituency and regularly visits and makes contact with them regarding available funding streams.

Lisa opened the new Hydrogen Facility in East Kilbride at TUV SUD and she is currently liaising with the new Town Centre Managers about regeneration opportunities.

Veterans Work

Every June Lisa hosts an MPs Veterans Event at the East Kilbride British Legion to celebrate veterans across South Lanarkshire, with speeches from the Provost, South Lanarkshire Council Chief Executive, Service Leads from the Army, Navy and Royal Airforce and local veterans Charities including Poppy Scotland and Veterans First Point. 

Lisa’s husband Cllr Mark Horsham is the local Council’s Veteran’s Champion and a veteran himself, and as such they are part of the local armed forces family.

Lisa has been working with the Veteran’s Minister on issues of Mental Health and the Armed Forces Covenant and attends the Veterans group in parliament.

School Awards & Christmas Card Competition

Lisa hosts Debating Champion Awards annually in each of the secondary schools across East Kilbride, Strathaven & Lesmahagow to support local youth development.

Each Year, Lisa hosts a Christmas Card Competition for Primary School Children, with each school winning a prize and the overall winning entry printed and sent out to MPs, the First Minister and the Prime Minister. 

Lisa supported Milton Primary School in Lesmahagow to be sent a tree from the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy which was planted by the local school children.

Climate Change Initiatives:  People, Planet and Animals – COP26

Lisa organised a tree from the late Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy to be planted in five areas across her constituency:  Langlands Moss, Calderglen Park in East Kilbride, Strathaven Park, Stonehouse Park and at Milton Primary School in Lesmahagow.  

Lisa linked with the Japanese Embassy to plant 40 Sakura (cherry blossom) trees in Strathaven Park with the vision of creating a Japanese Garden.  Cultural ties continue to be grown between Japan and Strathaven building upon this pioneering initiative.

Lisa’s priorities in parliament particularly in the wake of COP26 in Glasgow, include climate change supporting themes of people, planet and animals.  Lisa regularly asks parliamentary questions in the House of Commons on these matters.
