Mental Health Spokesperson: 

Lisa took on the role of SNP Mental Health Spokesperson in 2017 and drawing on her experience as a psychologist, in parliament has worked with the British Psychological Society to champion mental health awareness.  She has tabled in excess of 125 written questions on mental health and raised mental health issues in the Chamber 100+ times.  In 2020, Lisa led a debate on Psychological First Aid for Frontline Staff which received cross party backing, subsequently Government funding was announced.

Chair of the Health All Party Parliamentary Group:

Lisa was re-elected Chair of the Health group in March 2021 having chaired this vital group throughout Covid19.  She has been working closely with Cancer charities on campaigning for additional Government funding to clear the cancer waiting times backlog resulting from Covid-19.  This year, she will be hosting the Parliamentary Health Awards championing those frontline staff who have all made such a difference during the pandemic.

Chair of the Disability All Party Parliamentary Group:

Lisa has been Chair of the Disability All Party Parliamentary group since 2015.  The groups secretariat is Disability Rights UK.

During the past six years, Lisa spearheaded the Speaker’s Disability Internship Scheme offering paid parliamentary placements to people with disabilities across the UK to ensure aspiration, opportunity and inclusion in the House of Commons.  This innovative scheme is now being rolled out to 35 international parliaments in order to promote disability inclusion at the seats of Governments worldwide.

In 2019, Lisa received the Sense Award for Parliamentarian of the Year.

In 2020, Lisa wrote to the Prime Minister asking for a Disability Inclusive Covid19 Response, supported by 100+ cross parliamentary peers.

During the next parliamentary term, Lisa will be signing MP’s up to become Disability Confident Employers to ensure that disability inclusion and equality sits at the heart of cross party working.

Lisa has also been leading on the Inclusive Entrepreneurship APPG that works to ensure that people with disabilities have opportunities in business as well as in employment.

Chair of the Dog Welfare Group:

Lisa formed the Dog Advisory Welfare group in parliament in 2017 with the secretariat provided by TV regular Marc the Vet.  The group has been extremely successful, leading upon Lucy’s Law which made the statute book in 2019 to protect puppies and their mother’s against puppy farming and dog trafficking.  The group are currently working on issues of dog theft, international dog meat consumption, dog fighting, sentencing for animal cruelty and greyhound welfare.

Mentoring All Party Group – The Diana Award

In 2020, Lisa became Chair of the Mentoring All Party Group in parliament working with Secretariat Tessy Ojo OBE, CEO of the Diana Award with a key focus in supporting young people’s mentoring.  During National Mentoring Week 2020, 100+ MPs were successfully signed up to mentor a young person in the UK.  The APPG are also working on Mentoring for Care Leavers, as a particularly vulnerable group of young people.
