Dr Lisa Cameron MP commends pioneering insomnia treatment.

Sleepio is a NICE accredited intervention for those who have sleep problems which can be very debilitating and impact physical and mental health.

Sleepio is available to all adults living in Scotland through Big Health’s partnership with the Scottish Government.  It is a is a free 6 week online program designed by sleep experts and based on cognitive and behavioral techniques.

According to research cited by Sleepio For those who are able to get care for insomnia, 82% are given medication – but medication may not always be the best option to tackle sleep deprivation.

According to Nice this as a landmark moment for UK healthcare and innovation, with Sleepio the first-ever digital therapeutic treatment for insomnia with experts analyzing Sleepio’s 12 Randomized Controlled Trials to ensure it is safe, effective and cost-effective before recommending it’s use.

Commending the work of Dr Colin Espie one of the professionals involved in its development (pictured) with an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons Lisa said

“It was fantastic to catch up with Professor Colin Espie who is doing some sessions in NHS Lanarkshire to learn about Sleepio which has been developed by his team across the UK including at Oxford University and to present their Early Day Motion in my capacity as Chair of the Health All Party Parliamentary Group”.
