Stay in EK Campaign – Dr Lisa Cameron MP

Over 2000 local jobs in the constituency have been saved after it was announced East Kilbride’s Centre One office is no longer under the threat of planned closure.

In a significant breakthrough for the ‘Stay in EK’ campaign backed by Dr Lisa Cameron MP, HMRC has announced today that the government department has announced a U-Turn on its decision to move to Glasgow in a move which has delighted staff and those around the constituency.

Centre One, now called Queensway House will form part of the Glasgow Regional Centre

Dr Lisa Cameron MP said of the governments reversal:

“I am so delighted that the Stay in EK Campaign that I have been part of has been a success and that UK Government have now changed their poorly thought out plans to close our Centre One. The skills and talent in East Kilbride has finally been recognised and the value of keeping the Tax Centre firmly in our town. The incredible work of PCS union, many debates in Parliament, meetings and questions to Government and we have finally achieved our outcome. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Campaign over the past few years, this outcome will make such a huge difference to the 2000 employees whose jobs will remain in EK and whose roles are central to the campaign. It will also make such a difference to the surrounding services who benefit from having the Tax Office in EK”.
